Summary

A thrilling return to the #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series, continuing Rachel Morgan's story。

RACHEL MORGAN IS BACK--AND THE HOLLOWS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME。

What happens after you've saved the world? Well, if you're Rachel Mariana Morgan, witch-born demon, you quickly discover that something might have gone just a little bit wrong。 That the very same acts you and your friends took to forge new powers may have released something bound by the old。 With a rash of zombies, some strange new murders, and an exceedingly mysterious new demon in town, it will take everything Rachel has to counter this new threat to the world--and it may demand the sacrifice of what she holds most dear。

The 14th entry in a series is like the 14th season of a show。 The characters are familiar and there is little more to do than throw random events at them and let them play out as expected。 Instead of being comforting and cozy these books are usually tired and boring to me。 This is barely still holding my attention。 Watching best friends and lovers responding to the same things in the same ways just wears on me。 I want something new, or something complex, and it's not quite giving it to me。 I'd r The 14th entry in a series is like the 14th season of a show。 The characters are familiar and there is little more to do than throw random events at them and let them play out as expected。 Instead of being comforting and cozy these books are usually tired and boring to me。 This is barely still holding my attention。 Watching best friends and lovers responding to the same things in the same ways just wears on me。 I want something new, or something complex, and it's not quite giving it to me。 I'd rather it end and the author start over developing a new world and a new set of characters I can fall in love with again, but I haven't completely fallen out of love with this series and I will continue to try the new entries until I open one, think "enough," and close the cover on it forever。 。。。more

Brilliant and ThrillingtI’ve always enjoyed the Hollows novels and Rachel Morgan。 Even though it had been a bit longer than I’d recalled since I’d stepped between the pages of a Kim Harrison novel, I found it was like stepping into the embrace of an old friend。 Things might have changed but the essential nature had not。 The characters were as wonderful as I remembered and the plot as thrilling a ride as ever。tIn American Demon, numbering 14 in the series, Rachel has saved the world and everythin Brilliant and ThrillingtI’ve always enjoyed the Hollows novels and Rachel Morgan。 Even though it had been a bit longer than I’d recalled since I’d stepped between the pages of a Kim Harrison novel, I found it was like stepping into the embrace of an old friend。 Things might have changed but the essential nature had not。 The characters were as wonderful as I remembered and the plot as thrilling a ride as ever。tIn American Demon, numbering 14 in the series, Rachel has saved the world and everything should be right with her world but there are repercussions and consequences, including a mysterious new demon in town for her to deal with and her home still under construction。 With new threats to deal with, Rachel must gather her resources, new and old, and some changed from her previous connections, and get to the bottom of the threat before it demands sacrifices she isn’t certain she can afford。 tWhile I don’t like to give spoilers, I will confirm this one brought me right to the brink with the consequences and demands on the character, both of her heart and her courage。 One of the elements I appreciated the most was Kim Harrison’s ability to fill in the reader on all of the backstory without missing a beat in the action of the current novel。 I never felt like I was missing critical information or missing knowledge about the character。 She brings the reader along for the ride while the character puts together the pieces of the mystery and as a reader, even if you might be behind a book or two, the story and plot are as thrilling as ever。 tHonestly, I find the characters real and authentic as any person in real life, maybe because of the fantasy settings。 I find their dilemmas and battles endearing and harrowing。 I find myself connected with the characters and their losses are my own。 That is a rare talent in an author。 She finds ways for her writing to emotionally connect with readers。 The dialogue and action are only one element in that equation。 The dialogue made me laugh and at times cry but it was the skill of the author in her plotting that made those moments so impactful。 I highly recommend Kim Harrison’s newest book。 Even if it’s been a while, you won’t be able to put down the book and will find yourself on edge waiting for the next one。 And if like me, you found yourself missing one or two along the way, you will want to read the others to catch up。 It isn’t necessary because Kim Harrison does such an excellent job weaving in that past but I imagine it will be quite thrilling and fun to do so, just as much as this book。 。。。more

(Won this book on Goodreads)。 This one was a hard one for me to read。 I can only assume that I have not read any of the other prior books and felt lost the hole time。 To me there were too many characters to remember, even with the breakdown in the front of the book。 The characters seemed OK but again I feel like I am not a good judge as I jumped in without knowledge of the previous books。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I would have gave the book five stars if there wasn’t (spoiler alert) so much of Rachel whining about what Trent needs and he and Elizabeth should be together。 It’s redundant now, and also this is the first book I’ve ugly cried and sobbed while reading。

I have been following Rachel Morgan's adventures since she first started out on her own,14 books ago。 In this book, which is based in Cinncinati, her chosen hometown base, she and Trent are definitely a couple, not just in work-related situations but have become the social pariah couple, as she is a witch-born demon and he is an elf。 It is about a year since she helped create a new world existence in which demons now are allowed citizenship and can roam freely。 The Goddess who controls the ley l I have been following Rachel Morgan's adventures since she first started out on her own,14 books ago。 In this book, which is based in Cinncinati, her chosen hometown base, she and Trent are definitely a couple, not just in work-related situations but have become the social pariah couple, as she is a witch-born demon and he is an elf。 It is about a year since she helped create a new world existence in which demons now are allowed citizenship and can roam freely。 The Goddess who controls the ley lines and all magic are looking to find Morgan because of how Morgan changed the power system (I think it is just a communication gap, because Newt the former only female demon, now controls/is the Goddess。 Morgan is currently living in Kristen's yacht docked by Picary's restaurant because her residence at the church was damaged and needs substantial repairs。 The insurance that they had on it (actually Jenks, the pixie), only covers part of the damage, so the major costs have to come from the earnings she makes on her jobs。The book starts with her nodding off while waiting outside the church for Jenks and Ivy and she has a quick dream that she killed Jenks, which makes her jerk awake。 As she steps out of the car, she shoos away a large crow。 Inside the church, she finds a teenage elf, who claims he wants to see Trent, but runs away when Jenks and Ivy arrive。 Suddenly outside noise is heard in the garden and they find a zombie which they have to coral and bring to the zoo。 There they meet Edden who makes them sign papers saying that they are relinquishing their "ownership" of the zombie and then asks Rachel to come to INS concerning a series of attacks and murders that have occurred between different couple of multiple types of species and the attacker doesn't remember why and how they attacked。 Little does Rachel realizes that her morning dream of attacking Jenks is connected。It was great to come back to the Hollows and see that Rachel has gained control and confidence in her magical skills。 Plus she gained another mentor in Hodin, who also happens to be Gally's brother。 。。。more

This book was so, so good。 I didn't expect that I would be engrossed after all this time has passed, but Kim Harrison did it again。 So many twists and turns。 And of course, you never know what's going to happen since she likes to kill off major characters。 I would not suggest reading this as a stand alone book, as Rachel and Trent allude to a lot of things from the past。 This book was so, so good。 I didn't expect that I would be engrossed after all this time has passed, but Kim Harrison did it again。 So many twists and turns。 And of course, you never know what's going to happen since she likes to kill off major characters。 I would not suggest reading this as a stand alone book, as Rachel and Trent allude to a lot of things from the past。 。。。more

I am glad the book of Hollows is back。 It had a slow start and I kept having to reference the characters in the beginning of the book to refresh my memory。 However the ending was great and I hope there will be more books in the future。

Kim Harrison brings back the Hollows in all its glory in her 14th installment-American Demon。 Rachel and her friends may have saved the world but in true Morgan fashion, something went wrong and now Rachel must find and contain this threat before something even the worse happens。Rachel and her little cookie maker are back。 I have been a huge fan of this series since the beginning and was thrilled when I heard Harrison was writing a finale of sorts。 Set some years before the epilogue, we all know Kim Harrison brings back the Hollows in all its glory in her 14th installment-American Demon。 Rachel and her friends may have saved the world but in true Morgan fashion, something went wrong and now Rachel must find and contain this threat before something even the worse happens。Rachel and her little cookie maker are back。 I have been a huge fan of this series since the beginning and was thrilled when I heard Harrison was writing a finale of sorts。 Set some years before the epilogue, we all know how this truly ends which gives the reader a sense of relief。 That's not to say there are no surprises。 An energetic jam-packed storyline along with some interesting new characters will keep you hooked till the end。 Beware though, Rachel's insecurites raise their ugly head and muddy the story a little here and there but never fear, Harrison weaves her magic and guides us to an epic ending。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 As one of the top fan of Kim Harrison Series I was excited to read American Demon。 Getting back into the Hollows series brings me joy。 Rachel and Trent love has gotten stronger in this book。 They both work perfectly together to get this done and supporting each other。 I was truly sad in the ending on how she lost one of her family members but hopeful to get him back。

This is a fun read for people who are already Kim Harrison/Rachel Morgan fans, as a sort of "what happened after the end" story。 It's a while since I read any of the other books, so maybe I'm remembering them as better than they actually were, but this one's storyline seemed a little thin in comparison, with few problems for the main characters to overcome。 Although I liked the new demon character (Hoden), I did think that Harrison used him as a bit of a deus (demon?) ex machina - always availab This is a fun read for people who are already Kim Harrison/Rachel Morgan fans, as a sort of "what happened after the end" story。 It's a while since I read any of the other books, so maybe I'm remembering them as better than they actually were, but this one's storyline seemed a little thin in comparison, with few problems for the main characters to overcome。 Although I liked the new demon character (Hoden), I did think that Harrison used him as a bit of a deus (demon?) ex machina - always available to tell Rachel the answer, teach her the spell she needed, or get her out of trouble。I also found Rachel's constant self-pity and taking on of responsibility for the consequences of other people's decisions to be increasingly annoying。 Denying other people the right to make their own decisions (and their own mistakes) is not "responsible" or "being a good friend", it's arrogant and self-righteous。 So, four stars because Kim Harrison is a good writer, but I don't think this is anywhere near her best work。 。。。more

I LOVED the whole series so far but felt like she rewrote the last book again with all the same story lines。 Really。 You let me down。 I already read the one before and some was just straight up copy and past。 As someone that's waited years for this book I feel pretty hurt that Kim (Dawn) would screw us over like this, did she need the money or just not care and the characters and the fans。 I LOVED the whole series so far but felt like she rewrote the last book again with all the same story lines。 Really。 You let me down。 I already read the one before and some was just straight up copy and past。 As someone that's waited years for this book I feel pretty hurt that Kim (Dawn) would screw us over like this, did she need the money or just not care and the characters and the fans。 。。。more

I was so excited when I found out that this book existed, and thus, that the series wasn't over。 I was a little worried that the author might have just continued on for sake of a paycheck, but I needn't have been concerned。 This is a solid Hollows book with all of the appropriate twists and turns, and several plot lines begun to keep the series alive and well! Still my favorite series in this genre!
